The Throne

The Throne is arguably the furniture item that best represents the birth of Habbo's rare economy. It first appeared in June 2002 as one of three birthday gifts from Hotel Manager ione, alongside the Russian Samovar and Holoboy. At the time, Habbo's furniture collection was still relatively small, and rare furniture was released so infrequently that individual pieces could quickly become incredibly important to collectors. The Throne's status grew partly because it was more than decoration. Unlike many of the early rares, it was a piece of seating that players could actually use, and its unmistakable red-and-gold appearance made it a natural symbol of wealth. As trading developed, players began using Thrones as a practical reference for the value of other expensive furniture. In effect, the Throne became one of Habbo's earliest forms of currency. Its history also became connected to the infamous Samovar Crisis on the British Hotel, another chapter in the story of ione's three gifts. Thrones later became particularly associated with casinos and high-value trading rooms before gambling was prohibited on the international hotel. More than two decades later, the Throne remains one of the first pieces most veteran Habbos think of when they hear the words "classic rare."
