Russian Samovar

The Russian Samovar has one of the most unusual origins of any classic Habbo rare. It was introduced in June 2002 as part of Hotel Manager ione's birthday celebration, making it one of the three famous "ione's Gifts" together with the Throne and Holoboy. These three pieces were extremely significant because they arrived at a time when the Hotel's rare economy was still being formed. The Samovar was not simply a decorative object. Players could interact with it to receive a cup of tea, making it one of the early examples of furniture having a function beyond simply sitting in a room. Its design also made it particularly popular in Asian-themed rooms and other elaborate interiors. Its most famous chapter, however, came later. The Samovar became the centre of what became known as the Samovar Crisis, an event that dramatically affected its value and the wider perception of the ione gifts. The story demonstrates just how seriously players had begun to take furniture ownership and trading.
